Edgy!
1. I've discovered that if you look at the tag "ratbones" on tumblr, aside from one thing that is actually me, there are just a ton of skateboards and one gun. Edgy. There's also a Ramones tribute band called Ratbones, which I honestly think is clever.
2. I finished drafting chapter 8 of All-Consuming and it's slightly under 7k. My chapters are meant to land between 5k and 6k words, but that is not what has been happening. It should be up tomorrow unless something comes up. I'm pretty excited about this one! It contains DNA testing, secret files, and fresh fruit.
3. Guardian Fandom Bingo is happening, probably everyone knows by now but just in case?, and I am EXCITED. I am also constitutionally incapable of taking part in structured group activities. The first time I tried to attend university, I dropped out during orientation week. (This is not a joke; it's funny, but it actually happened.) So I think I'm not even gonna try, but if it looks like fun to you and you haven't gotten a card, please do! I'm cheering on everyone who's participating, I love this idea! Also yay for the fandom growing!
4. In continuing "Rat lives in a creepypasta" news, I drive down an unpaved country lane on my way to and from work, and it's got a little wooden bridge over a stream. Lately, when I drive there at night, there is something with glowing red eyes hanging out at the bridge. It's always gone before the direct beam of my headlights reaches it, even when I speed up. ...Okay, it's definitely an opossum. But like. Still.

Oooooooohhhh this is exciting! And fast! So fast I'm still behind but this just means more to look forward to. \o/

This is honestly so very relatable and I'm so glad it's not just me. The bingo looks fun but...! It's very organized. And bingo-y. Which... I signed up for h/c bingo months and months ago and I've done *checks square* ... *squints*... is "soliciting ideas from Dreamwidth comments" on there anywhere? No? Uh well then I've done nothing. (Of the bingo! I'm still managing copious quantities of feral, unboxed h/c.)

Reading this made me want to never drive at night again.
You are a brave soul.

Your forlorn empty h/c bingo card! I would be a bit tearful over that if you hadn't been writing the feral variety. (Psyched for your WIP! Of course!) Organized things with externally-imposed requirements, how do people even do it? It's very impressive. That kind of directed productivity is beyond me, when it's at all voluntary.

You mean your driver's license exam didn't include a Cryptids On And Near The Road section? :P

I'm over halfway to a blackout on my own hc_bingo card :D
It's such a lovely feeling when a fic writes itself! I'm SO enjoying the zombie fic. Can't wait to read the next chapter!

WONDERFUL. YOU ARE AMAZING. PLEASE CONTINUE.

aww I'm so happy. I should be editing right now! Get off Dreamwidth, me!

Here is my card! https://frith-in-thorns.dreamwidth.org/171829.html (I have WIPs for Substance Addiction, Loss Of Possessions, and Loss of Hearing in addition to the filled squares.) Please especially admire how I have no actual lines.
Good luck with your editing! :D

You can get a line in like 4 different ways with one more fill though! So close! I gotta go through that list and make sure I haven't missed anything.

I keep throwing longing looks at AO3 as I finish up other tasks I am PSYCHED to have so much goodness waiting for me but I also need proper time to enjoy said goodness.

I know! If you want me stunned into impressed silent say something like "I participated in this multi-fandom exchange" because: MULTI? EXCHANGE? You just wrote something for one of SEVERAL things? Clearly magic.
That kind of directed productivity is beyond me, when it's at all voluntary.
I work well with prompts, but of the kind that's like...lots of people talking about their favorite h/c tropes and then going "wait why has nobody written THIS". And then that sets things in motion. (Very, very slow motion. But still!)

Oh, I hope you didn't think I was rushing you! My fic can wait -- and you don't owe me extensive comments, I love them but there's never enough time for all the reading and I get it. I think we've had this conversation before, but. it remains true.

Well, that's excellent because this fandom should have every conceivable h/c trope covered at least once. Yeeees. So far I haven't managed to write anything for a prompt, but it could happen? I've only been writing for like 5 months and I have no idea really. Enabling does appear to work on me...but also very slowly.

Good to know I'm not alone in this! It's not like I don't appreciate the concept of a close-knit group of like-minded people doing fun activities together, and I do love spectating or even helping out if needed, but as for myself, I gotta go my own way, or else I get, I dunno, performance anxiety or something? XD
I did not, however, drop out of medical college... A choice I regret bitterly to this day ^^

See, this is what I'm always telling people. Don't become a doctor! Drop out, get a mediocre job, and write fanfiction! The true path to fulfillment. :P

This is what I'm always telling people, too! Unfortunately, my sister's on the fast track to the same path of misery as myself, so clearly I've failed to make my nearest and dearest actually listen XD
But...you aren't talking about yourself, surely? You're an astrophysicist, aren't you (iirc)? That job is so posh, it doesn't even exist where I live!
no subject
My degree is in astrophysics but I don't work in the field. Only the dropping-out bit was a joke -- I did drop out but then I gave it another try. (Technically I dropped out of college twice. And high school once. My temperament is not suited to academics, clearly.)

Congratulations on the writing! How many total chapters do you anticipate?
no subject
Thanks! And -- argh, good question. I'm going to go out on a limb, maybe 14 chapters total? I'm still not great at predicting how many words I need per plot point. Should be done in December, anyway (before the holidays, oh god please.)

Glowing red eyes at a bridge... have you paid the troll toll?
no subject
If the local bridge troll would just set up a nice civilized toll booth instead of skulking and glaring at me from the shadows, I would happily pay up. Please don't eat me, Old Red-Eyes, do you take debit?
no subject
You have to feel for the bridge troll. How can they possibly afford the merchant fees for modern payment processing? It's a hard life.
no subject
You have a point, I've used one of those phone credit card scanners and it suuuucks. Being a bridge troll must have been a lot easier when you just had to shake down peasants for a ha'penny.
