520 Day Reverse Exchange fics!

I have two things to post about, and they're so unrelated that I'm just going to make two posts for once in my life instead of squinching it all together. So...second post coming later, hopefully.

I participated in the 520 day exchange this year! I'm not great with structure, so it was kind of a stretch outside my comfort zone, but I'm glad I did it (at the encouragement of cyberbrain). I'm still reading through the collection, but I want to promo some things before this is really truly out of date.

First off, my gift fic, which gave me the biggest warm fuzzy feeling. Featuring Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan (and Da Qing) negotiating who protects whom and how. Shen Wei's thoughts are articulated beautifully here, and I love the way it lays out how he ticks. Also, bonus post-fix-it feels, and Shen Wei and Da Qing lowkey agreeing to keep Zhao Yunlan safe together, which is one of my favorite things!

Next up, my fic! My recipient asked for a fancy event fic with a mystery, and that's...exactly what this is, it's fancy event casefic in a can. I had the hardest time coming up with a case for this and scrapped multiple ideas before settling on one - and that's not because the one in the fic is super-genius; kind of the reverse. I kept coming up with things that were either too gory and upsetting for a mostly-cheerful atmosphere or just way too convoluted. (Quelle surprise.) I'm really happy with the final product, though! ...It's still not exactly short!

And finally, I want to rec cyberbrain's piece for the exchange. I am not unbiased but I really loved it. The Dixing worldbuilding is fantastic, so are the original characters, and I didn't see the ending coming at all -- there's a twist there that made me squee out loud. Also features established-relationship Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan being adorably sweetly in love.
