Word count + sleep-related rambling
Oct. 9th, 2019 11:16 pmThe word count of the zombie AU is 47k (not counting later scenes I've written out of order) at this point, but slightly less than 44k of that has been posted, bringing my total word count on AO3 to...99,944. Yeah, I was 56 words away from hitting 100k today. Oh well, I'll get there next week. That was the plan, anyway. Chapter 7 just turned out longer than I expected.
I had a writing slowdown last week because work attacked, and also maybe because I was struggling with this chapter a bit, but I'm happy with how it turned out when I finally got it done. Zhao Yunlan is in fine form in this one. And now things are kind of set up to all fall down very neatly for the next several thousand words (hopefully), and I'm excited to get that stuff written.
Excited enough that I've been staying up late writing. I'm a night owl when I have a project, this is not new, but I've definitely gotten myself into a delayed sleep schedule once again, after having sort of fixed it for a few months. I wrote 5k words on Monday, between 6 PM and 1 AM. I don't really want to sacrifice one of the most productive and enjoyable hours of my day every day for sleeping, and I'm able to get up late-ish most days, but when I have to get up early I am a very grumpy bear. argh.
As I type this, there is a weird scraping noise coming from inside the wall just over my desk. Or maybe it's in the attic? Hope I don't die! (I'm fine, it's probably a mouse.)

Date: 2019-10-10 06:41 am (UTC)Almost at 100k is BRILLIANT and you should totally celebrate next week. \o/
5k in a day is likewise wildly impressive!
... Really I feel like I should be telling you that you need sleep etc etc but that would be rankest hypocrisy. Because wow do I feel you on the bedtime thing! Our alarm is set to 6:30 and this means 10pm would be a great time to quit for the night. AND YET. Yesterday I did almost all my words after 10pm? So now I'm in for another tired day and I'm not even sorry because: words.

Date: 2019-10-10 05:13 pm (UTC)Re word count: eeee thanks! I'm pretty excited about the 100k, I was surprised when I realized I was creeping up on it! I'm kind of binge-writey by nature but 5k was still a lot, too.
Oh gosh 6:30 is so early, there's no way I could get myself to knock off at 10! But same problem, though. Words, exactly! I'd be peeved with myself and trying to fix it if I was up late playing video games or watching Mythbusters reruns, but writing isn't a waste of time to me and so I can't get myself to stop when it's going well. The brain juices flow better at night, what can you do?

It is SO early and I absolutely can't most nights.

They do! It's true! And even trying to shut yourself in a darkened room pretending it is night is...not the same.
I am looking forward to having a bit of time to catch up on your latest chapter to read all those words!
